About Us

The Department of Botany, which was started in 1952, offers an undergraduate and Post graduate course in Botany, and is recognized as a Research Centre in Botany and Microbiology. The Department has been recognized as a DST-FIST sponsored department. Under Star College Scheme of DBT, the department had received financial assistance for strengthening of Life Sciences & Biotechnology education. 14 students have received TNSCST student project grants and 3 minor and 9 major research projects have been granted by funding agencies such as UGC, CSIR, DBT, MoEF, DST-WOS-A, DST-TNSCST and DBT-BBSRC-INDO UK. 17 students have been awarded Ph.D Degree.
