The centre of women s studies CWS was started in the year 1989 with the purpose of promoting and supporting teaching, training research and extension activities relating to women's studies. Subsequently in 1995, a foundation course in w omen's studies was introduced for all final year undergraduates students. The main aim was to sensitize them on gender issues and to empower them to face the challenges of a transitional Society. CWS was started organizing Various programmes seminars, workshops exhibitions and documenting news on the issues of women. Faculty members drawn different departments were sent to Philippines for training in women's studies. The students were encouraged to take up field studies , research project and awareness program-mes. The center has been recognized and is supported by the university grants commission from February 2005. even the post graduates students are required to study one of the course offered CWS.

 

 

The Centre for Women’s Studies was established in the year 1989, as a resource centre with a capacity of 2124 books. Its role is to initiate, co-ordinate, promote and support teaching, research and extension activities in collaboration with other departments in the college and outside institutions/organizations. The Centre is functioning effectively with the financial assistance from the University Grants Commission from January 2005. The Centre has been promoted to phase II in 2010.

The Centre offers the following courses:

  • Foundation for Women’s Studies ( UG & PG).
  • Perspectives on Gender (V. Ed.-An advanced PG  course).
  • Gender and Development (PG  Elective)
  • Women and Work Women, Nutrition and Hygiene (UG Service Learning courses).
