About ISC

Lady Doak College announces the launch of the American Transfer Program (ATP) with Concordia College in New YorkNew

Lady Doak College believes in promoting interdisciplinary exchange among faculty, students, and visitors from around the world. Having this in focus, the International Studies Centre (ISC) functions to widen the perspectives and experiences of students through crosscultural programs and discussions one effective method towards building bridges between nations.  Housed in Oberlin Hall, the ISC partners with the Oberlin Shansi Memorial Association to create and maintain a space for the promotion of international and intracultural consciousness.

Founded in the 1990s, the ISC first started in a small room only filled with a tiny collection of books and movies. Now, it has a vast library and cozy reading room, a main office space, and a future writing centre. It is traditionally staffed by one office assistant, one Oberlin Shansi fellow, and two faculty coordinators.

ISC also welcomes study abroad and service groups, professors, and scholars from around the world. In the past, visitors have volunteered with local nonprofits, taught miniclasses, held workshops and participated in discussions with LDC students and faculty. For more information, kindly contact us at ldc.isc@gmail.com.

Mission
To provide resources and space to explore academic, professional, personal, and social interests with an international framework? to work handinhand with Lady Doak College, Shansi, and other colleges, universities, and organizations for the development of international and intracultural understandings? to provide opportunities for leadership and self development as well as extracurricular participation.

Three Goals
1. To promote international and intercultural consciousness among students, faculty, staff, scholars, visitors, and communities through discussions and activities.
2. To provide resources for our communities to expand their interests within a global context.
3. To build trust, love, and compassion within our community in order to respect each others’ experiences and engage in difficult discussions.
