About the BIF centre

History

• Established in Nov, 2006 at LDC
• Act as bioinformatics hub for the teachers and UG, PG, M.Phil and PhD students of various departments and nearby colleges and research institutes..
• Various projects were carried out using BIF centre.
• 34 computers (Under DBT-BIF: 29) with one high end server, photocopier, printer and scanner.
• Internet facility at a speed of 100 Mbps with ethernet connectivity.

1. Molecular informatics and Mycology

  • Bioprospection of basidiomycetes

  • Mycosynthesized AgNPs for ocular applications

  • Endophytes for biomedical application

  • Genome analysis of macro fungi

2. Medical microbiology
  • Parasporin in cancer therapeutics

  • Peptide inhibitors for controlling Dengue

3. Biopolymer Production
  • Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA)

  • Chitosan

Major activities of the Centre

  • Organizing seminars and workshops for students and research scholars to teach bioinformatics with hands on training.

  • To promote research among the students and faculty from various departments and other (ICMR institute, Madurai) institute/ colleges.

  • Development of databases : MEDDB, DENvirDB

Beneficiary from DBT-BIF centre

  • Projects completed: PhD - 2; PG Diploma - 31; M.Phil - 13; PG -15; UG - 14; Miniproject - 4.

  • Students trained: 39 (studentship & traineeship)

  • 923 participants of college students, school teachers, assistant professors, research scholars and scientists were benefitted.
